"Why, oh why, another solitaire card game?"
|

You may well ask. Here are some of the reasons:
An Open-Format, Cross-Platform Solitaire Game That YOU Can Customize
- SoliLuxe is written in Java. This means it will run on any operating system supporting the Java SE Runtime
Environment (JRE).
-
Although the Java JRE must be installed in the computer/OS where you want to run the game, the game doesn't
need to be installed on each machine - pop it on a USB stick and take it with you wherever you go. Use it in
Windows one minute, in Ubuntu the next!
- SoliLuxe stores the definitions of the various solitaire versions in user-accessible, plain-text xml files.
Anyone can add another version of an existing game - or a completely new one - by adding an xml file
to the /rules directory. A "Patience Programmer's Guide" is included to explain how to define a game.
- SoliLuxe uses user-accessible graphics files in standard png and jpg formats. "Skinning" SoliLuxe is as easy as going
into the /images subfolder and replacing the files there with your own.
Contemporary Design and Full-On Game Experience
-
Let's face it: A lot of the competition is getting a bit long in the tooth,
with many games originally designed in Visual Basic back in the days when Windows 95 was the
last word, a screen size of 800x600 was impressive, and widescreen was
unheard of. I felt a need for something more in tune with current events.
-
These days, of course, modern doesn't always mean "good gaming experience". There
are millions of sites on the web where you can play different Solitaire versions.
In tiny windows. With cr*p control systems. And menus, frames, borders, ads and
all sorts of distracting mayhem going on around the game itself. Good luck concentrating!
SoliLuxe gets rid of all that. (And sits on your hard disk or USB stick ready to play
even if someone digs a hole right through your internet connection cable.)
- SoliLuxe takes its player interface seriously. For example, drag-and-drop operations
do not demand pin-point accuracy to the mouse movements, making the game play faster
and smoother with better ergonomics. A number of features are also included
to keep the strain on your mouse arm and wrist to a minimum. These include keyboard shortcuts,
right-clicking for moving cards to available positions, "convenience sequence moves"
for one-card-at-a-time games like Freecell and 40 Thieves, and
finally autoplay for moving a lot of cards to the foundations in one go.
